NPF 8U WIN over Salem
The undefeated 8U Nashua PAL Force had a rematch Sunday of their week 3 game against the Salem Rams. These two teams are closely matched and this week didn’t disappoint ending in a nail biting touchdown in the final minute of the game.
The Rams came out strong with their offense able to move the ball well. They took an early lead and didn’t give it up for 3 quarters. Nashua’s defense was on the ropes allowing the rams to get in the red zone multiple times. But key turnovers by the force defense kept the game within reach. Walter Dolloff and Luke Graven both came up with fumble recoveries in the first half for the Force.
Nashua was still trailing by an extra point conversion in the 4th quarter. When Salem broke open a long run for a touchdown late in the 4th. Nashua’s Force had to stop the extra point for any hope to tie the game. They came up with the stop and gave their offense a chance. A long run by Leo Desfosses seemed to be the answer only to have it called back for a penalty. Desfosses tired from the run was able to do it again two plays later only to be caught on the one yard line. Xavier Maldonado punched it in for the TD on the next play. Maldonado was called on again for the extra point and the tie game.
It seemed all but certain this game would end regulation in as a tie. But with a little more than a minute left in the game Jake Hamernick of the Force’s defensive line reached past his blocker and stripped the running back of the ball as it tumbled forward Xavier Maldonado quickly pounced on the ball giving the Force offence one more shot.
Quarterback Leo Desfosses was called upon one more time to try to make this a story book comeback for the ages. As he swept right he saw the Salem defense flood to the outside which had been keying on his every move the entire game. Desfosses changed his direction up field and somehow found a seam. As he broke through the other side it was a foot race to victory. The Force defense then held on for the final seconds and a win for Nashua.
